MMSD Background Check Instructions

  1. Go to
  2. Click “Sign up here to volunteer!”
  3. Click “New Registration”
  4. Follow the prompts to enter your email address and hit “Continue”
  5. Follow the prompts and hit “Register”
  6. You will then shortly receive an email from with the subject line “ACTION REQUIRED”
  7. Click the link in the email
  8. Check information and click “Activate Registration”
  9. Follow prompts to log in with your email address and newly created password
  10. Fill out the Volunteer Services Application Form
    1. Under “Indicate if your volunteer service is affiliated with the following,” select “MMSD Student Services Partnership (Healthcare, Human Services, Mental Health)”
    1. For “Volunteer Location Selections,” select:
      1. Any Elementary School
      1. Any Middle School
      1. Any High School
    1. Under “Check all activities for which you wish to volunteer,” select “MMSD Student Services – Mental Health Support”
    1. Once complete, click “Set Activity choices and Continue …”
  11. Enter information required for criminal background check
    1. After you select “I Authorize,” hit “Submit”
  12. You will receive an email letting you know when your application has been approved; please forward this email to me at so that I can confirm that your background check has been completed. Thank you!

MMSD Background Check Instructions
(Directions for Returning Clinicians)

  1. Once you receive an email from App-Garden stating that your background check has expired, go to
  2. Click “Sign up here to volunteer!”
  3. Sign in with your email address and previously created password
  4. In the upper right-hand corner, click on “My Profile”
  5. Click “Renew Application”
  6. Select “Yes” in response to the prompt “Continue Volunteering?”
  7. The personal and volunteer info you input previously should still be there. Confirm that any elementary, middle, and high school are still selected under “Volunteering Locations.” Complete any sections that are now blank.
  8. Once all info is updated, scroll down to the bottom of the page and select “I Authorize”
  9. Select “Save Changes”
  10. Once you have received an email from App-Garden saying that your application has been re-approved, please forward this email to
